Uniting Against Poverty

This Lent, Unity College is proud to partner with Caritas Australia in the mission to 'Unite Against Poverty.' Through our annual fundraiser, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of people around the world, providing them with access to clean water, opportunities for entrepreneurship, and hope for future generations.

This year, the funds raised by our community will support vital projects in Samoa, Vietnam, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. One inspiring story of impact comes from Samoa, where Toefuata'iga, a 13-year-old student, faced significant disruptions to her education due to water scarcity. Thanks to Caritas Australia's partner, Caritas Samoa, a 10,000-litre water tank was installed at her school, dramatically improving student health and ensuring more consistent class attendance. Access to water is about more than convenience. It is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and to helping students like Toefuata'iga fulfil her dreams.

“I would like to become a good teacher. To teach the children so they will have a brighter future," Toefuata'iga shared.

At Unity College, we have set an ambitious but achievable fundraising goal of $5,000—equivalent to just $3.50 per student. A small sacrifice, such as donating the cost of a morning coffee for one day, can make a significant impact.

So far, we have raised $1,418.00 with only 1.5 weeks left to reach our target!

To conclude our fundraising efforts, students will participate in the 'Big Water Walk' on Friday, April 4. This meaningful event will encourage students to experience the daily reality of many around the world by carrying water as they walk.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Unity Community for your generosity and commitment to this cause. Your support is making a real difference.
